Anubhava Mantapa, established by the 12th-century social reformer Basavanna, is a significant religious and philosophical institution located in Basavakalyan, Karnataka, India. Often referred to as the "First Parliament of the World," it served as a platform for saints, philosophers, and mystics to engage in discussions promoting social equality and spiritual democracy.
In January 2021, the Chief Minister of Karnataka laid the foundation stone for a new Anubhava Mantapa in Basavakalyan. This ambitious project, estimated at ₹612 crore, aims to encapsulate the teachings and legacy of Basavanna. The proposed structure is envisioned as a six-floor building, symbolizing various principles of Basavanna's philosophy, and is designed in the Kalyana Chalukya architectural style. The project is expected to be completed within two years from its initiation.
The establishment of the new Anubhava Mantapa is poised to enhance Basavakalyan's status as a center of spiritual and philosophical discourse, attracting visitors and scholars interested in the region's rich cultural heritage.
Basavakalyan itself is a city with a rich history, having served as the capital for both the Kalyani Chalukya and Kalachuri dynasties.
Babasaheb Gadde is the architect responsible for designing the New Anubhava Mantapa in Basavakalyan, Karnataka.Babasaheb Gadde explained that the Basavakalyan Development Board invited conceptual designs for the Anubhava Mantapa, aiming to encapsulate the philosophy and principles of Basavanna. His winning design envisions a six-level structure with concentric circles, each representing stages of spiritual progression in Lingayat philosophy. The top level, 'Aikya,' features a 770-seat auditorium dedicated to the followers (Sharanas) of Basavanna. The building is designed without conventional air-conditioning, employing an innovative, energy-efficient cooling system. The construction is planned to utilize stone, marble, and wood, with machine-assisted carvings to expedite the process
